Videoconferencing

In current times, online meetings and conferences became indispensable for any organisation.

Holding them in a way that allows hosts and participants to fully concentrate on their core business, not being disturbed by technicalities, is key to user experience and efficiency.

During the past years, I had the privilege to successfully accompany several organisations in the deployment and operation of videoconferencing systems, some of them across continents. These online infrastructures served a broad spectrum of applications, ranging from private meetings, international conferences, educational webinars, or broadcasting, to even being an interaction point with social media.

I will stand by your side at any step of the conception, planning and deployment process, assist you with the operation and support you for special events. To supplement my personal competences, I regularly team up with fellow freelance experts in the fields of hardware (audio/video) and software (custom development) as well as with technicians and operators.

Planning and setting up a videoconferencing infrastructure

  • Understand and document your needs
  • Choose the videoconferencing infrastructure that fits these needs
  • Decide on the relevant licences as well as potential add-on features
  • Activate and configure accounts and functionalities
  • Test the infrastructure (features, compatibility, security, redundancy, performance)
  • Train users, but also conference chairmen, interpreters, transcribers, and video & audio technicians

Consulting for a particular event

  • Elaborate a global concept depending on audience size, desired interactivity, and privacy (virtual meeting rooms, webinars, streaming or hybrid)
  • Plan global schedule and individual timings
  • Define interaction modalities (video, audio and chat permissions, asking questions, giving feedback, raising hands, …)
  • Document and appoint roles (discussant, question moderator, timing moderator, support, technical operator, …)
  • Formulate meeting rules and privacy guidelines
  • Prepare complementary interactions (feedback surveys, weblinks/information, emailing)

Experience with platforms and technologies

  • Zoom
  • Cisco Webex
  • Microsoft Teams (and Skype for Business)
  • GoTo Meetings
  • BlueJeans
  • Team Viewer
  • Discord
  • Streaming via VoD-platforms and social media
  • Audio and video-mixing (real-time handling using dedicated hardware)
  • Audio and video-editing (post-treatment with Adobe products, Lightworks, Audacity, etc.)

Tackling outages

  • Mitigate risks with in-depth analysis and reliable fall-back scenarios
  • Carry out fall-back scenarios in case of outages
  • Fast decision taking to minimise impact in case of unforeseen events
  • Debrief after each event and document lessons learned

First level support

  • Provide documentation for users (FAQ and standard troubleshooting)
  • Train participants with an active role
  • Rapidly get in touch with hosts or participants experiencing any kind of issues
  • Debrief after each event and document lessons learned

Cross-platform skills

  • Security (encryption, risk evaluation and mitigation, user-handling)
  • Robustness (fall-back scenarios and redundancy setups for increased reliability)
  • Granularity (plenary and parallel rooms, breakout groups, hybrid setups)
  • Transcription (automated or manual speech-to-text)
  • Interpretation (simultaneous translation from and to several languages)
  • Recording
  • Streaming
  • Licence and user-rights handling and optimisation
  • Education & training
